Background
Madelyn was born in a remote land perpetually shrouded in rain and mist. To solve the constant scarcity of crops, she buried herself in books, determined to protect her homeland through knowledge.
Before she could discover a way to bring prosperity, an unknown, highly toxic plant began silently poisoning her home. It was a mysterious adventurer who saved the day with the audacious strategy of "fighting poison with poison." This not only saved the land, but revealed to her the captivating depths of toxicology, driving her to set out on a journey to uncover the pharmacology of all things.
But monsters roaming the wilds quickly became an obstacle to her research.
"Theory on paper alone will never reach the truth." It was this realization that led the once-frail scholar to shed her timidity and pick up a longbow. Now, she treads through the harshest of terrains as an adventurer, her weathered notebook—ever at her side—still filling with new hypotheses.

I. Strangers in the Rain
Madelyn and her younger sister were born in a secluded land perpetually drenched in rain. Due to the harsh climate, people could barely scrape by through hunting and gathering, never achieving a bountiful harvest.
"If only we could find the miracle that lets crops thrive in the rain, no one would have to struggle just to survive." Carrying this grand aspiration, Madelyn threw herself into the world of botany. With her astonishing talent, she quickly read through every text she could find, becoming a renowned scholar far and wide.
One year, her sister discovered a strange, unfamiliar flower at the edge of the village. It was an ornamental plant that villagers happened to bring back from the outside world and casually planted within the village since it favored water.
But no one could have predicted that this seemingly delicate, exotic flower was the beginning of a disaster. From that point on, the village's remaining crops began withering and dying at an unnaturally rapid rate.
II. The Line Between Poison and Cure
At first, people assumed it was ordinary decay caused by excess rain. But as even the hardiest wild grasses began to wither, Madelyn sensed something was deeply wrong.
Working day and night to collect samples and trace the cause, she eventually confirmed that this "withering blight" was spreading outward from that foreign flower as its epicenter. But uncovering the truth brought no relief—even after uprooting the source, Madelyn had no way to restore the land at the time.
Just as she was at her wit's end, her sister brought back an adventurer who had traced the anomaly to the village. After reviewing Madelyn's meticulous records, the adventurer explained that the plant was inherently toxic, releasing water-soluble poison through its roots to destroy surrounding vegetation and seize the land's nutrients.
The adventurer then produced another lethal toxin, and with masterful skill, refined a neutralizing solution right before Madelyn's eyes. "Spread this over the land, and it will recover," the adventurer said before departing.
III. Path of Truth Fulfilled
That crisis completely reshaped Madelyn's understanding of the world: if a lethal poison could harbor the very means to purify the land, then somewhere in the world there must exist an ultimate cure that could bring fertility back to her homeland. She decided to leave the frontier and venture into the wider world to further her studies. Before she left, her sister hand-stitched her an exquisite leather journal: "With this, you can record every plant in the whole world!"
In the bustling towns, she absorbed cutting-edge pharmacological knowledge at astonishing speed. During this time, she learned of a monster called Pukei-Pukei, whose body possessed the extraordinary ability to convert plants into venoms of varying properties. This sparked an intense curiosity in Madelyn.
But to obtain a sample of the monster's live toxin, she would have to venture into the most dangerous hunting grounds herself.
Though issuing an investigation was an option, Madelyn believed becoming an adventurer herself was the more direct path. And so, combining the precise archery she had honed for self-defense in her youth with her toxicological expertise, and carrying the journal her sister gave her, she officially joined Freya's guild as a scholar-adventurer.
IV. Once in a Lifetime
Even within Freya's Guild, Madelyn stood out as one of the rare adventurers with expertise in both toxins and pharmacology. Squads often asked her to join them, but Madelyn always said she preferred to focus on her research and wasn't ready to commit to a fixed squad role.
Madelyn made a point of taking on quests across as many different environments as possible, gathering rare flora and extracting deadly monster venoms whenever she had the chance between assignments. As her research deepened, the pharmacological journal that carried her vow grew ever thicker.
Whenever she organized her notes at her desk, Raya would curiously wander over and chat with her about trivial, inconsequential things. That unguarded closeness always reminded Madelyn of her sister back home, bringing her a sense of comfort she hadn't felt in a long time. Later, with Ouyang Varen joining as well, the three naturally formed a squad.
On her long journey, she once tried to track down the adventurer who had taught her the method of "fighting poison with poison," but even the well-traveled Freya had never heard of such a person. In time, Madelyn made peace with it—cherishing that encounter as a once-in-a-lifetime stroke of fate on her path to knowledge.
