Background
Adventurer, or pyrotechnician? Why not both?
As a man with "flamboyance" etched into his very bones, Luxheart's true reason for traveling the world was simply to show off... though publicly, he always claimed it was to "explore the mysteries of nature."
It wasn't until one of his performances accidentally provoked a monster and caused chaos that he realized his oft-repeated phrase about "exploring nature" couldn't stay just words. If he wanted to coexist with monsters, he needed to truly understand this world.
Just as he was preparing to embark on a genuine journey of exploration, an invitation from a guild arrived.
"No wonder you're the guild leader—you've an eye for talent!"

Personal token: Flashing Light
A lens ground to a special polish, scattering harsh light into shimmering halos of color. When held before the eye, those fragments gather into the brilliant spectacle Luxheart cherishes above all else. As long as light still falls through the glass, he believes wherever he stands, the stage is already set.

I. After Nightfall
Luxheart was born into a family of pyrotechnicians, touring from town to town with a circus alongside his family since childhood. Since fireworks could only be set off after nightfall, most of the preparation work—including test firings—was also done at night, meaning he spent most of his working hours as a child in unlit spaces. The first lesson his family taught him was how to feel the darkness: the deeper the night, the sharper the contrast when the fireworks lit up, and the more visible the audience's reaction. Because of this, he was made to sit still with the lights off from a young age, waiting in an empty field beside a fully loaded rig for the signal.
But what he never told his family was that he had always been afraid of the dark, even when it wasn't total darkness. He experimented with every scrap of material his family had, eventually finding one with extremely high reflectivity—as long as there was even the faintest trace of light nearby, it would be magnified many times over. He sewed it into his cuffs, collar, and brim, relying on it to get him through the long nights of waiting.
All those years, the only thought that carried him through to the ignition signal was this: the fireworks would rise. And in the instant they bloomed, every trace of fear would be swept clean away, leaving nothing but overwhelming emotion.
II. An Unexpected Performance
As he grew older, Luxheart became a pyrotechnician renowned far and wide. During one outdoor performance, a startled small monster burst into the venue from outside, causing an uproar in the audience. He happened to be on stage at the time, and instinctively grabbed the nearest firework, aiming it toward the intruder and setting it off—the blinding light drove the monster back outside, and the show continued without interruption. The audience assumed the whole thing was a planned segment, and the applause at the finale exceeded even the original climax. This performance received an unprecedented response, and it taught him something important: the same fireworks, set off in a moment that couldn't be scripted in advance, carried an emotional impact unlike anything else.
Until then, all his performances had taken place on prepared stages, with fixed routines, positions, and ignition sequences.
From that day on, he began seeking out situations that could bring the same emotion, asking adventurers who came to watch his shows to bring him along on their quests, just for the chance to set off fireworks somewhere with no set program.
He also quickly realized that to use light effectively out in the wild, he first needed to understand the habits and ecology of monsters—knowledge that had nothing to do with pyrotechnics, and could only be learned by following adventurers.
III. Debut Aboard Ship
After following adventurers out into the wild several times, he confirmed that the emotion he sought could only be found beyond the stage. A stage has fixed boundaries; the wild has none.
Hearing that a guild was recruiting people capable of long-term travel, he applied that very day, bringing along a bag mostly filled with various pyrotechnic materials. On the first night aboard the ship, he set off three fireworks on deck, calling it his "debut performance," startling everyone on board—Echo promptly demanded he submit advance notice for anything like that in the future.
In the quests that followed, he discovered that the wilderness was nothing like a stage—wind direction and humidity both interfered with the effects, and the Flash Pods issued by the Guild struck him as far too dim. He brought this up to the blacksmith, Peach. Peach, who normally wasn't one to strike up conversation, took the sample apart right then and there. The finished product's brightness finally satisfied him, though the cost was an excessive amount of flammable material, which meant no one dared mass-produce it. To this day, it's still officially labeled as a "test item"—and he's the only one in the whole Guild allowed to carry it.
IV. Fuse
During a quest on Aesoland, Luxheart encountered a Radiant monster and made a misjudgment, and was knocked down to the bottom of a rock crevice. The fireworks he carried scattered completely in the fall, leaving him with nothing he could ignite, and the familiar fear came crashing back over him. When his teammates pulled him out, he didn't say a word the entire way back.
That night, he laid out all his materials and recalculated everything from scratch. He thought back to those nights as a child, keeping watch in the empty field—every dark he'd ever feared had ended with a firework going up, and the brightest fireworks of his life had all been worked out in the hardest nights. The fear had never truly gone away; it simply always walked ahead of the fireworks.
The next day, he went back into that crevice, bringing every Flash Pod he had, setting them off section by section all the way down, until the entire crevice was nearly as bright as daylight.
He's still afraid of the dark. But now he knows: the more afraid he is, the more the next flash will be worth watching.
